Affordable
Workplace CIC

Who We Are

In short, we provide affordable workspace for businesses and organisations that are doing great things but need a leg up to reach the next stage of growth.

Affordable Workplace CIC was founded to help charities, social enterprises, and entrepreneurs by providing them with genuinely accessible and affordable offices and workshops that provide the stability and space needed to grow their businesses.

Currently, we operate from our family workspace in Clerkenwell (FBC), which has been welcoming individuals and SMEs in our flexible office accommodation since 1983.

We constantly strive to foster a friendly community of like-minded entrepreneurs, charities and social enterprises who add real value to the community and those in need.

Our Story

Run by two brothers, former Honda executive Hugh and historian Ian, AWCIC was formed out of a family business, FBC, in Clerkenwell.

Hugh and Ian grew up painting the walls of the building, which was originally opened by their father to provide flexible office space for small businesses. Since taking over they have continued the family tradition by providing affordable workplaces for businesses ready to make change in the world.

The current Clerkenwell site offers a range of private offices, co-working, virtual offices, meeting rooms and events spaces. The goal is to expand this to provide mentoring, coaching and support services when appropriate funding and resource is in place.

When Hugh and Ian found many office spaces emptied after lockdown struck, as well as striving to fill the space with new members paying commercial rates, a meeting with the Clerkenwell Alliance highlighted the immense pressure on local families, schools, churches, communities, and businesses during the pandemic.

This planted the seed that empty space ought to be filled, and in this case, with deserving people and at an affordable cost – Affordable Workplace was born.

Work with us

From our space in Clerkenwell we have seen first-hand the gentrification taking place over the last 30 years and recognize the huge wealth disparity that makes it harder to get great ideas and worthy initiatives off the ground.

So, we are reaching out to anyone that might be struggling to afford an office for their business or organisation. Meet with us to discuss your business needs, and we will match you with suitable space at a discounted rate that you can afford.

Who We Help

If you are a charity, social enterprise or entrepreneur looking for an affordable workspace then get in touch to see how we can help to find the space you need.
In our offices you will find support in a buzzing community of like-minded entrepreneurs. Many worthy charities and young entrepreneurs have already been given free or subsidised space at FBC over the last 18 months, and we are excited by the potential they have for further growth here and in the community!

These include Mer-IT, the computer refurbishers who needed a bigger space in order to service their growing client base, Migrateful and several others.

We are also making plans to provide mentoring, coaching and support services when appropriate funding and resource is in place.
